Similan Islands’ Adventure in 2024/25
As Similan islands remain one of the most popular tourist destinations in Southern Thailand and a big reason why many of our guests prefer Ataman Luxury Villas to places like Phuket or Koh Samui, many are wondering what the experience is like for the upcoming Thai High Season 2024/25. While there are many exciting places to visit in Khao Lak and Phang Nga province, Similan islands are still one of the most iconic natural landmarks in the region and it doesn’t look like this is going to change anytime soon.
Preparing For The Trip
You will receive most of the equipment that you require during your journey, but there are a few useful items that you might want to bring. As you will be spending a lot of the time under the sun, it is recommended to grab some sun block, sunglasses and a hat to keep your head and body protected. A waterproof bag should keep your belongings safe as you disembark from the speedboat on to the islands. Finally, it might be a good idea to bring your cell phone or camera to take some pictures of the marvelous views that you will be witnessing during the tour. Bringing money is completely optional as snorkeling gear, food and drinks are included in the tour, unless you want to buy something in the shops at the pier or on the islands.
Now let’s look at what a typical tour would look like when traveling to Similan from our Luxury Villa Resort on Koh Kho Khao.
Morning Arrangements
The day starts early in the morning, with an option to either have a quick breakfast at our private restaurant or have the snacks packed by our staff in advance to consume on the way. When everyone is ready, you will be picked up by a private car from our Koh Kho Khao Beach Resort. As you arrive at the Thap Lamu pier near Khao Lak, the departure point for the tour, you can enjoy some extra snacks and hot drinks before hopping onto your speedboat at around 9am.
After about 1 hour 15 minutes, the boat arrives at the Similan islands and your adventure truly begins. Usually, the first stop will be near Koh Ha or Koh Payu (islands 5 and 6). This is where you will be able to get into the water with the provided snorkels and fins to explore the vibrant local marine life and colourful coral reefs that Thailand is famous for.
Lunch and More Snorkeling
Closer to the midday, the boat will travel to the beautiful Koh Miang (island 4), where you can get to enjoy one of the main reasons to travel to Similan – relaxation at the pristine white sand beach at the Princess Bay with crystal clear waters, right in the middle of the quiet and calm Andaman Sea. Here you will also have your lunch break, diligently prepared by the staff stationed on the island.
After about an hour of exciting island exploration, you will be departing for another snorkeling session at Koh Ba Ngu (island 9). Depending on the sea conditions, the captain will choose the best spot visibility-wise for the day at either Christmas Point or Namchai Bay, with a different experience compared to the earlier stop in the morning. Here you can observe a variety of colourful fishes, such as the famous Clown fish, barracudas, triggerfish and might even get a chance to see some Sea turtles.
The Highlight – “Donald Duck” Bay
The last stop on your journey will generally be Koh Similan itself, the largest island of the group. Here you will be able to have another swim at the white sand beach near the so-called Sailing Rock that has a peculiar shape resembling the well-known Disney character, Donald Duck. Make sure to climb all the way to the top to treat yourself to the mesmerising views of the bay that would surely become a lifelong memory and is a must-have experience for those who are visiting our Private Beachfront Villas in Khao Lak.
At about 3:30-4pm the tour will head back to the mainland pier at Thap Lamu for dinner, which includes some traditional Thai drinks and food, such as papaya salad. After you finish your snacks, it is time to go back to Ataman Luxury Villas on Koh Kho Khao for a nice and relaxing evening to relish all the lifelong memories you have acquired during the day.
